Not only is it the manufacturer with the second-largest smartphone market share worldwide, the latest numbers also show that South Korean phone maker Samsung topped the list of the most popular phone brands in Q3 2024 in terms of smartphone shipments.

Top smartphone brands ranked by number of shipments
Recent data on the top smartphone brands ranked by the number of shipments shows that Samsung shipped 57.8 million smartphone units in Q3 2024, making it the most sold phone brand in the world. This marks a 2.8% decrease from the 59.5 million shipments it made in Q3 2023 and accounts for 18.3% of the global smartphone shipments market share. In other words, nearly one out of every five smartphones delivered in Q3 2024 was manufactured by Samsung.
In second place, rival brand Apple shipped 56 million smartphones in the same period, a 3.5% annual increase and accounting for a 17.7% market share. Together, Samsung and Apple’s global smartphone shipments market shares total 36%, which means that more than one-third of all smartphones shipped out in Q3 2024 were produced by these two companies.
Third on this list of top smartphone companies (by shipment) is Xiaomi, which shipped 42.8 million devices in Q3 2024. This represents a 3.3% year-over-year rise. It’s worth mentioning that three years ago, the company reported record revenue growth of 64% in the second quarter of the year, during which it outperformed Apple to become the second-largest smartphone manufacturer.
The fourth-most popular phone brand is Oppo, with 28.8 million shipments in Q3 2024. This represents a 5.9% increase from the previous year’s numbers. Rounding out the list of the top smartphone companies is vivo, which shipped 27 million devices. This was a 22.8% increase from the previous year’s numbers and the largest annual increase of the five most popular phone brands in the world
With the exception of Samsung, the phone brands on this list increased their number of mobile shipments year on year. In total, 316.1 million smartphones across all brands were shipped in Q3 2024, a 4% yearly increase.
Of the five most popular phone brands, four are from Asia—specifically, China and South Korea. Apple is the only non-Asian brand to feature on the list.
