According to the latest data on fixed internet speed ranking, Singapore has the world’s fastest internet. Its average download speed on fixed internet connections is 286.66 Mbps (megabits per second). In other words, it would take less than four seconds to download a one-gigabyte file on fixed connections in Singapore. 

To put Singapore’s fast internet speed in perspective, we need to look at the global average. Worldwide, the average fixed internet speed for downloads is 92.26 Mbps—around one-third of Singapore’s.

Second on the list of countries and territories with the world’s fastest fixed internet connection is Chile. Its download speed is 272.01 Mbps, which means, like in Singapore, it would take less than four seconds to download a one-gigabyte file. This is followed by Hong Kong, with a download speed of 270.72 Mbps. 

The United Arab Emirates has the fourth-fastest fixed internet speed in the world. The average download speed there is 257.14 Mbps, marginally slower than Hong Kong’s. Incidentally, the UAE also has one of the highest internet adoption rates in the world, with 99% of its population connected. 

Rounding out the top five on the list comparing average internet speeds by country and territory is the United States, the second-biggest ecommerce market worldwide, with a download fixed internet download speed of 242.38 Mbps. 

At 242.38 Mbps, France has the sixth-fastest fixed internet speed in the world. It is followed by China, with 238.17 Mbps. As the country with the most ecommerce sales worldwide, having a quick online connection in China is important for both consumers and businesses there. 

Monaco is close behind in eighth place. It has a download speed of 236 Mbps. After Monaco, Thailand ranks next with an average internet speed of 226.36 Mbps for downloads via fixed connections. Denmark rounds out the list with a download speed of 225.81 Mbps, just slightly slower than Thailand’s.

Of the 10 countries and territories on the list comparing the world’s fastest fixed internet speeds, eight are located in Asia and Europe.

Mobile internet speed ranking by country and territory

The list sorting average internet speed by country on mobile connections looks rather different from that of fixed internet connections. Only four countries appear on both lists—the UAE, Denmark, China, and the United States.

Topping the ranking of average internet speed by country on mobile connections is Qatar, with a download speed of 286.42 Mbps. It's closely followed by the UAE at 284.21 Mbps, and Kuwait at 216.96 Mbps, making them the only countries where mobile speeds exceed 200 Mbps. Rounding out the top five are South Korea and Denmark, with speeds of 173.95 Mbps and 157.94 Mbps, respectively.

Continuing with the list, China claims the sixth position, offering an average mobile download speed of 144.85 Mbps. Norway follows closely behind, securing the seventh spot with a speed of 141.40 Mbps. 

The Netherlands ranks eighth on the mobile internet speed ranking, delivering an average speed of 134.15 Mbps. Completing the top 10 are Saudi Arabia and the US, with mobile internet speeds of 125.19 Mbps and 122.74 Mbps, respectively.
